Build Confidence
Through hands-on cooking, children have opportunities to participate, learn new skills, and build confidence around ingredients and foods they can safely enjoy.
Feel Included and Capable
Cooking allows children to contribute, make choices, and take an active role in the kitchen. Small moments of participation can help children feel capable, included, and proud of what they create.
Positive Relationship with Food
Positive experiences can help children explore food with curiosity and enjoyment. Over time, these moments can lay the foundation for a healthy relationship with food.

Age-Appropriate Participation
Recipes are chosen with young children in mind and include opportunities to pour, stir, measure, mash, and explore ingredients. No previous cooking experience is needed.
No Pressure to Perform
Children are welcome to participate in whatever way feels comfortable for them. Watching, helping, and exploring are all valuable forms of participation.
Family-Centered Learning
Parents remain actively involved throughout the class, creating opportunities for connection, encouragement, and shared experiences in the kitchen.
Designed for Inclusion
Recipes are created to be egg-free, dairy-free, peanut-free, and tree nut-free, helping more children join in, participate, and feel included in the experience. If your child can safely enjoy some of these foods, please see the FAQ for more information.
Encouraging Variety and Discovery
Food exploration is woven into every class, introducing children to a variety of foods in a fun and supportive environment.
Realistic for Everyday Family Life
Simple, nutritious, and family-friendly recipes help make allergy-friendly cooking feel more manageable.

Little Hands in the Kitchen is a live online cooking experience designed for children ages 2–6 and the grown-ups who support them. Together, you'll prepare a simple allergy-friendly recipe while creating positive experiences around food.
One live online cooking class each month
Held on the second Saturday of every month at 11:00 a.m. Atlantic Time
Approximately 30–45 minutes
Designed for children ages 2–6 years
Opportunities to explore ingredients and practice kitchen skills
Recipe and ingredient list sent in advance
Family registration (siblings welcome)
Families joining from outside Atlantic Canada, please check the time in your local time zone.

When my oldest child was diagnosed with multiple food allergies and severe eczema as an infant, our focus quickly shifted to everything we needed to avoid. Like many parents, I left appointments with a long list of foods to remove, but very little confidence in what to serve instead.
Avoiding allergens is an important part of food allergy management, but it is only one part of the journey. Once families understand what needs to be avoided, the next step is often rebuilding confidence around food and discovering new possibilities for their child.
That's one of the reasons I created Little Hands in the Kitchen. As an Allergy Specialist Dietitian who has led children's cooking classes for the past seven years, I'm passionate about helping families focus on what children can eat while creating positive experiences that support a healthy relationship with food.

You can email me at [email protected] if you have any questions. I'm happy to help! Don't forget to check out the FAQs below; there's plenty of helpful info waiting for you.
Each month, we'll make a different allergy-friendly recipe together. Recipes may include snacks, breakfasts, baked goods, and simple family-friendly meals.
Every recipe is egg-free, dairy-free, peanut-free, and tree nut-free. You'll receive the recipe and ingredient list before class so you can cook alongside your child from the comfort of your own kitchen.
That's completely okay.
Little Hands in the Kitchen is a pressure-free environment. Children are never expected to taste, eat, or participate in any activity if they don't want to.
Some children may be excited to jump right in, while others may prefer to watch, listen, and observe before joining in. All forms of participation are welcome.
The goal is not perfection. The goal is to create positive experiences around food.
That's completely okay too.
Little Hands in the Kitchen is designed for young children, and I understand that toddlers and preschoolers often move in and out of activities.
Whether your child participates for five minutes, the entire class, or anywhere in between, they are welcome here.
Please don't hesitate to reach out at [email protected]
Every child is unique. So are their food allergies. I'd be happy to discuss your child's specific needs and help determine whether Little Hands in the Kitchen is a good fit for your family.
Recipes are created to be egg-free, dairy-free, peanut-free, and tree nut-free to help more children participate.
If your child can safely enjoy some of these foods, simple swaps can often be made to help maintain variety and avoid unnecessary food restrictions.
Absolutely!
Registration is per family, not per child. Siblings are welcome to participate alongside the family.
While activities are primarily designed for children ages 2–6, younger and older siblings are welcome to join in whatever way feels right for them.
Absolutely!
Families are welcome to ask questions, share comments, celebrate successes, and connect with other allergy families throughout the session.
To help create a positive and child-friendly environment, discussions will focus on cooking, food exploration, confidence-building, and practical strategies families can use at home.
If you have a question or concern you'd like to discuss further, please feel free to reach out by email after class.
Most recipes use kitchen equipment that many families already have at home.
You'll receive a recipe, ingredient list, and equipment list in advance so you can gather everything you need before class.
For the best experience, I highly recommend a learning tower (kitchen helper stool) so children can comfortably participate at the counter.
Depending on the recipe, you may also need:
Blender and/or immersion blender
Mixing bowls
Measuring cups and spoons
Whisk
Wooden spoon or spatula
Ice cream scoop and/or cookie scoop
Baking tray and/or baking dish
Muffin tin
Parchment paper
You won't need every item for every class, and recipe-specific equipment will always be included with the information sent before class.
Little Hands in the Kitchen takes place live online using Zoom.
A few days before class, you'll receive an email with:
Your Zoom link
The recipe
Ingredient list
Equipment list
You can join from a computer, tablet, or smartphone. For the best experience, I recommend using a device with a larger screen so your child can easily follow along during the class.
Families can choose the option that works best for them.
